A Vision for Edenton Commons
To create a true third place for Edenton—a space between home and work that brings people together through events, shared experiences, and everyday moments.

Rooted in Edenton History
Originally constructed in 1949 as a Belk-Tyler department store, this building served as a cornerstone of downtown Edenton for generations. Its storefront, sales floors, and central location made it part of the town’s everyday rhythm. For decades, it was a place where the community gathered—not just to shop, but to connect, exchange news, and share familiar experiences.
As retail patterns changed, the building sat underutilized, waiting for a new purpose. Edenton Commons is the next chapter in that story—preserving its architectural character, restoring its place in the downtown landscape, and reimagining how the space can serve the community today. Rather than leaving the building frozen in the past, the project gives it a renewed role in Edenton’s future.
Developed Through Thoughtful Transformation
Edenton Commons is the result of a carefully planned adaptive reuse project—preserving the character of a historic building while transforming it into a modern, multi-use destination.

To Become Edenton's Third Place
A third place is the space between home and work where people gather, connect, and become part of community life. Edenton Commons is designed to serve that role through events, classes, entertainment, casual visits, and shared experiences.
Whether someone is attending a celebration, meeting friends, enjoying a performance, or simply spending time downtown, Edenton Commons offers a welcoming place to return to again and again.
